Whenthetimearrived,theturtlegotready;whenthesoundbegantoblow,theturtlewalkedalongslowly.Whilethehareintheothercasehoppedabouthappily.“Doeshereallythinkthathecouldbeatme?!”shoutedthehare,“Thatwouldbeadreaminhisbrain;”saidthehareagain.Whenhewasalmostatthefinishline,theharesaidtohim,“Ishalltakearest,thenwhenIgetuptheturtlestillbehindmytail;andIcrossthefinishline,usingmyrestenergy;”sayingthat,theharelaydownasleep.Theturtlestilldidn’tgiveup;hesoonfoundthehare,andcrossedhimquietly,whenhereachedthefinishline,hecriedoutloud;whentheharewokeup,foundtheturtlestillwasn’tinfrontofhim.

Hehoppedabouthappily,andwhenhereachedtheline,hefoundtheturtlealreadyrestingonarock.Theharewassoshockedthathelaydownonthegrassjustlikethathefainted.Andsotheturtlebecamethechampion;nobodyeverlaughedathimeveragain,andwheneversomeanimalswantedtolearnrunning,theydidnotgotoaskthehare;sincehewasnotyetthefastestanymore,insteadtheywenttotheturtletogetadvicefromtheirnewjunglerunninglessonteacher.
