《爱乐之城》叫la la land有两个原因：
1、la la land是洛杉矶的别称，故事发生在洛杉矶并且在洛杉矶拍摄取景。
2、la la land在俚语的含义表示的是梦幻之地，指不着调（脱离现实）的地方，在英语里还可以指精神恍惚的状态，就是白日梦的状态。这个片子很大程度上讲的是对世界的主观感受，幻想，梦想与现实的关系。所有歌舞的地方都可以当作是主人公对发生事情的主观感受和想象。
创作背景：
为了创作百分之百的原创歌曲，《爱乐之城》导演达米恩·查泽雷邀请到哈佛大学的同学贾斯汀·赫维茨来参加电影的配乐。贾斯汀·赫维茨为《爱乐之城》写了约1900份的小样，找来本杰·帕塞克和贾斯汀·保罗负责歌词，在成品被导演退回31次、贾斯汀·赫维茨反复修改后才形成了这张原声带。
为了带领电影的观众穿越到爵士钢琴家和女演员的爱情故事中，原声带的制作人将一些传统、经典的东西融入至歌曲中，并且由艾玛·斯通与瑞恩·高斯林亲自上阵，录制歌曲。其中，瑞恩·高斯林还接触到此前从未接触过的爵士钢琴，弹奏乐曲。
