第一篇:《New Zealand,a young and beautiful country》

New Zealand, A Young And Attractive Country

New Zealand was the last land mass on earth to be discovered, making it the youngest country on earth.

After Caption Cook’s exploration of it in the late 18th century, an increasing number of settlers came into it. In 1835, the British Crown signed a Declaration of Independence with 34 Northern Maori Chiefs and this declared New Zealand an independent state under British rule. Later, on Feb.2, 1840, at Waitangi in the Bay of Islands, the treaty of Waitangi was signed. This treaty is an agreement between the British Crown and the Maori. And it is the treaty that established British law in New Zealand while at the same time guaranteeing Maori authority over their land and culture. Today, the treaty is considered New Zealand’s founding document.

A country can be young and also can be beautiful. New Zealand is such a country. Lying at the South-west margin of the Pacific Ocean, it is the largest of the Polynesian islands. Due to its location and landscape, New Zealand has a warm and wet weather. Location, landscape and weather, all those factors leads New Zealand to a veritable warehouse of unique and varied plants and animals, most of which are found nowhere else. Besides, there are many national parks and reserves in New Zealand, offering huge scope for wilderness experiences from climbing, snow skiing and mountain biking to tramping and trout fishing. The beautiful natural scenery and rare animals and plants have attracted thousands of people to pay a visit, which makes New Zealand a charismatic country.

Though a country can be young and beautiful, it can not be very attractive without its people and its development.

New Zealand has a diverse population and with some uniting features, it is unique in the world. Its relatively isolated location and rugged landscapes make many New Zealanders quiet and independent, yet resourceful and self-reliant.

When we talk about New Zealanders, one thing we can’t miss is the Maori. The Maori, voyaging thousands of miles across the vast unknown Pacific Ocean in small ocean-going canoes, was the first to reach this land. They were brave , hardworking and creative. All these qualities have been part of the New Zealanders today.

New Zealand’s other pioneers were also brave, rugged and independent. After the discovery of the land, more and more migrants came there to pursuit a life they want, which makes New Zealand a vibrant and multicultural country. Before establishing settlements, they had to first clear the land---a painstaking and sometimes dangerous activity. Their exposure to the elements forced these early New Zealanders to become hardy and multiskilled. This resourcefulness and ingenuity has greatly contributed to the New Zealand character and it can still be seen in new pioneers----a generation of courage, self-reliance and independence. What’s more, with a low population density and spectacular scenery and so many coastlines, New Zealanders have a love of their landscape and the outdoors. Hiking, mountaineering, kayaking and water activities are all enjoyed by them and make them adventurous and confident.

In a word, New Zealanders are adventurous, confident, brave, hardworking and independent. Their characters make them beautiful and unique. With these qualities,

New Zealanders also make their country develop at a fast speed.

Major cities like Wellington, Auckland and Queenstown, full of skyscrapers, shopping malls and public facilities. Just as all the modern metropolitan cities, they are beautiful and attractive. Economy, technology and culture development have all added charisma to them and attract many people come to New Zealand for work, learning and sightseeing.

All in all, New Zealand is a young and attractive country!
