第二篇:《The Difference of Education Between China and Western Countries(中西方教育差异及差异形成的原因)》

What caused the differences of education between

west and china?

Education is a highly complicated affair, it concerns with almost all aspects in our society. Education in china is quite different from western countries, and those differences have deep political, economic, social, cultural and historical roots .Now I will analyze them one by one.

First, the politics

As far as I can see social system plays a key role in the development of education ,what kind of politics will produce what kind of education ,the differences in political system influenced the trend of respective education .The educational philosophy have to serve the society in which it seeking for a good development. Government is the main body to formulate education policies; control of education funding .Therefore, education is dominated by the ruling class.

Western countries are in a mature capitalist society, after a long-term development, they have formed a set of perfect educational system. Compared with China, western education is relatively free and open, the states and schools have greater power to decide the teaching materials and teaching methods.

While in China, things are quite different. Education has strictly

controlled by the central government, I think it basically because china is at the primary stage of socialism, and our government want to shape the citizens as loyal socialists, the schools and educators have little power in education activities.

Second, the socio-economic

Education has economical function, it contribute a lot to develop economy and in return, economy advance the development of education .so, differences in the economic development patterns influenced their respective demands on types of human resources

China's market economy is underdevelopment, and its secondary industry requires a lot of labor, the requirements of scientific and cultural quality for workers is low.in,the, western, countries。in,the, western, countries。

However, with highly developed capitalist economy, Western countries` Tertiary Industry developed well and it demands many high quality labors. So, many children in these countries accept high quality education, and their creativity and critical thinking capability are cultivated.in,the, western, countries。in,the, western, countries。

As the news said “education is not a product”, I do agree with this view. I think, education should be independence, not controlled by politics or

economics.

Third, cultural differences

East and West have their own cultural traditions, life philosophy and values. Chinese collectivist culture emphasizes the Collective interests and neglects the interests of the individual. It’s very common in china that people are relying on others evaluation to define their success or failure, so, when comes to education, it has formed an external-based evaluation system, schools and social evaluating students through examinations .Chinese people are obsession with education. such saying as ''so long as one studies hard, then wealth and beautiful wives will all come your way'' is direct embodiments of that tradition, and it’s Chinese people’s deep-rotted belief that education opens new and better opportunities in life, so does this thought in nowadays. So, the exam-oriented educations are popular in china.

While in west, the basic feature of their culture is individualistic, western people are open-minded, confident, free, and easy to accept new things. For instance ,sex education is a common thing for westerns while talking about sex in public君子不器 in china is a shameful thing. Therefore, the Western education respect the differences of individual and their value, education is a way to respect children’s personality, to encourage them to

pursue their true passion, so, western education is a student-centered quality education.

As the VOA special English reported: "John Dewey thought that testing had its place, but that testing should be more like medical tests. That is, they should be testing for individual needs, interests, abilities, and not to compare one student to another. As Dewey put it, the relation of the abilities of one student to another is none of the teacher's business."

Fourth. Historical reasons

From the 14th to the 16th century Western countries went through the Renaissance campaign and later the democratic revolution. Rousseau,

['ru:səu] Diderot['di:dərəut], Locke, advocated democratic ideas such as anti-feudal, individual values had a profound effect on western people. After hundreds year, the democratic ideas are still very popular. We can say that the majority of Western parents and teacher’s educational concepts are derived from this Revolution. Therefore, the civilization in Western countries was very early and people’s thoughts was liberated, so, education had a good development.

However, in a long period, China was dominated by the feudal classes; the Government closed our door and carried out cultural tyranny policy. Scholars subjected to the authority and the national examinations has

been the main form of personnel selection, exam-passing techniques are practiced thousand years, all these contributed to the Chinese modern education far behind Western countries.

What’s more, after Mao established new China, the Chinese imitated the former Soviet Union’s educational philosophy and educational system entirely. N.A. Kaiipob`s education philosophy was very popular at that time, he believes that "intellectual is education,

Share the most important place", his theory of education is still influence Chinese education in nowadays.

In addition, there are also some other factors influence education. One is the development of internationalization and immigration. let’s me take the U.S as a example, it’s a country of immigrants patched together from all over the world, seeking a better life based on their individual initiative ,ability and wisdom。So, the society is quite diverse.

And now, Chinese students are more likely to study abroad to pursue high education, an ova education reported "China have passed India as the top country sending students to the United States."

The Differences between China and Western Countries in Traditional

Wedding Ceremony and the Reasons of Them

Abstract:

Wedding ceremony, as the integral part of the culture and one of the most important ceremonies in one’s life, shows different wedding customs under the influence of different cultures in China and western countries, reflecting different culture characteristics. This article aims to make a comparison between Chinese and western traditional wedding ceremony in consideration of these aspects, such as venue, dress, color tone, marriage customs and other aspects of the differences, and then analyze the reasons causing the differences, in order to have a better comprehension of western cultures and a good command of common sense on intercultural communication for the students who are learning English as their second language. Key words: Wedding ceremony Differences Intercultural communication

With the development of the history and the increasing requirements of human civilization, marriage, as a sign of the progress of human being’s civilization, is getting more and more attention in details and gradually develops into a kind of ritual. Many factors, including history, religion, geography, democracy, etc, lead to form a variety of wedding customs which have their own local characteristics. China’s traditional wedding ceremony is cautious and strict, while Western Christian countries’ wedding ceremony is casual and relaxed. Traditional customs, settled down in the long history of development, are the best reflections of cultural diversity and differences in different regions in the world.

6级作文范文

One of the most important concepts in Chinese traditional wedding on choosing a spouse is “parental commands and matchmaker's words”. In other words, both the girl and the boy involved in the marriage have few rights to choose or refuse a spouse, whereas their parents play a leading role in the marriage and the matchmaker is actually the controller of the marriage. Even if the parents are all gone, the elders will take the role to fulfill his or her parents’ responsibility. Marriage is actually a family

affairs rather than a personal business when two standards, the first one is “perfect match” which means the two families involved must hold the same social status and be in possession of the same amount of wealth and the second one is his or her appearance and self-cultivation, are considered.

In western countries, although there is marriage of interests between two families, the marriage has a high degree of freedom. They hold that marriage is a God-given welfare to everyone. Anyone cannot be deprived of this kind of right, even if their parents cannot. Although the concept of marriage in western countries is more open, religious belief is a factor of greatest significance in the choice of a spouse. Generally speaking, Christians and Jews have little possibility of getting married.

In China, the wedding ceremony date is always elaborately selected by the fortune teller according to the bride and the bridegroom’s birth dates. However, people in western countries prefer to have their wedding ceremony on weekends, festival day or in holidays when all are relaxed and have time to enjoy the ceremony.

In accordance with Chinese traditional marriage customs, the wedding ceremony venue must be in the bridegroom’s family since the woman must live in the man’s home, reflecting Chinese women’s subsidiary status not only in the society but in the family, especially in the marriage. In western countries, however, out of respecting Christian doctrine, people hope that their wedding better be 古诗witnessed and blessed by the God, so the church is the ideal wedding venue. In addition, some couples simply complete their wedding in the Registry of Marriage where they can also receive the blessing of the clergy.

The main color in western wedding ceremony is white, which is a symbol of celebration in Roman times, a symbol of wealth from 1850 to 1900 and represents purity since the beginning of 20th century than any other times. The bride wears a white wedding dress, while the groom is dressed in starched suits. The westerners think the white color has relation to virginity. In the Catholic tradition, the white color represents happiness, holiness and fidelity, so the bride’s flowers and the decoration of surrounding environment are also in white. The main color in Chinese traditional

wedding is red, the so-called “Chinese Red”, which is a color representing a festival atmosphere and good luck. The bride usually wears red phoenix coronet, red gown and a red scarf, which means everything goes well and that the new couples will have a prosperous life. The groom usually wears starched suits, if possible and more traditionally, he may wear a red gown, mandarin jacket and a red brimmed hat. In the heart of Chinese people, Chinese dragon and phoenix are considered to be scared and beautiful and a symbol of the best marriage. As a result, phoenix is usually embroidered in ancient woman’s clothing and there is also Longfeng embroidery in bedding. Now due to the western wedding customs, more and more Chinese people begin to accept a white wedding dress.

From the above aspects, we can easily see that the venue, color, dress, and marriage customs are very different between Chinese and western traditional weddings. From my point of view, due to China’s ancient traditions, Chinese people pay more attention to the ceremony atmosphere and put more emphasis on liveliness, hoping that all the friends, relatives and all who care about the new couples participate in the wedding ceremony and have a happy time. However, westerners pay more attention to the feeling of the wedding ceremony, being solemn and serious about the ceremony. There are wedding vows and pastor’s presiding over the wedding which is solemn and well-organized from the beginning to the end. Here are my views about the reasons causing these differences.

China has a splendid culture of 5,000 years, a long time of feudal rule which cannot be ignored, deeply influencing the inner characteristics of the Chinese people. The Chinese people are under the influence of the Confucian culture which stress on governing everything especially big events, such as wedding ceremony, by ritual and law.Although western history is not so long and deep as China’s, as time going on, westerners gradually formed their own characteristics, advocating freedom and putting more stress on their own ideas and feelings, not subjected to the etiquette and rules. As a result, the etiquette in western wedding ceremony is not as complicated as that in China. The new couples, being paid attention by all, are the focus of thein, the, western, countries。

wedding.

Chinese culture is influenced by Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism, so most Chinese people don’t believe in any religion clearly. Chinese people are polytheists, believing ghosts and elves. For example, Chinese people adore Chinese dragon and phoenix. The etiquette and rules in modern wedding ceremony are formed in ancient times, which people just follow for best wishes. However, in the West, people’s religious belief is very clear, firm and of great importance. The way they arrange their wedding ceremony is in accordance with their religious belief. We can easily find that the Westerners’ wedding has a strong religious taste, which cause the differences in wedding customs.

The wedding customs are a reflection of the Chinese and Western cultural differences. When we study a foreign culture, we’d better master these cultural differences. With the development of globalization, intercultural communication between China and the West become more and more frequent. To understand the differences in other cultures is of great significance for those who want to improve skills in intercultural communication.

Good morning, all appraiser committee members. I am **** and my supervisor is ***. With her constant encouragement and guidance, I have finished my paper. Now, it is the show time. I will present my efforts to you and welcome any correction.

The title of my paper is On Transformation of Parts of Speech in Translation. I choose this as my topic due to the following reasons. Different languages have different standards to distinguish parts of speech. Each language has its own special structure. And there are no equivalent parts of speech between different languages. In order to make the target version more idiomatic and standard, the transformation of parts of speech is always used by translators. So the transformation of parts of speech is playing a more important role in English to Chinese based on different characteristics of English and Chinese. For the above facts, I select the subject of On Transformation of parts of speech as the title of my paper.

I hope by studying this topic we can know the importance of the transformation of parts of speech in English to Chinese translation. Through transformation, we can get the better version and improve the translation skills.

The way of thinking and expressing is quite different between Chinese and English. English is a kind of static languages which tends to use more nouns. While Chinese is a dynamic one in which verbs are often used.

So when we make translation in English to Chinese, we should know this point and shift the parts of speech.

Part one presents an introduction to the basic concepts of parts of speech and transformation.

Part two discusses the definition of translation and emphasizes the importance of transformation of parts of speech in the course of translation.

Part three gives four basic ways of transformation of parts of speech through illustrative examples. There are transformed English words into Chinese verbs, nouns, adjectives and adverbs.

Part four presents some problems about transformation and gives some advise to solve the problems.

Part five draws some conclusions that transformation between parts of speech is necessary for us to achieve good translation. It is demonstrated that we can have a good master of transformation and improve the translation. In addition, we must continuously study and explore in all kinds of translation practices.

OK! That is all. Thank you! Please ask questions.
