Grandparents Answer a Call

As a third generation native of Brownsville, Texas, Mildred Garza never planned to move away. Even when her daughter and son asked her to move to San Antonio to help their children, she politely refused. Only after a year of friendly discussion did Ms Garza finally say yes. The meaning of silence varies among cultural groups. Silences may be thoughtful, or they may be empty when a person has nothing to say. A silence in a conversation may also show stubbornness,uneasiness or worry. Silence may be viewed by some cultural groups as extremely uncomfortable; therefore attempts may be made to fill every gap(间隙) with conversation. Persons in other cultural groups value silence and view it as necessary for understanding a person’s needs.

Many Native Americans value silence and feel it is a basic part of communicating among people, just as some traditional Chinese and Thai persons do. Therefore, when a person from one of these cultures is speaking and suddenly stops, what may be implied(暗示) is that the person wants the listener to consider what has been said before continuing. In these cultures, silence is a call for reflection.

Other cultures may use silence in other ways, particularly when dealing with conflicts among people or in relationships of people with different amounts of power. For example, Russian, French, and Spanish persons may use silence to show agreement between parties about the topic under discussion. However, Mexicans may use silence when instructions are given by a person in authority rather than be rude to that person by arguing with him or her. In still another use, persons in Asian cultures may view silence as a sign of respect, particularly to an elder or a person in authority.

Nurses and other care-givers need to be aware of the possible meanings of silence when they come across the personal anxiety their patients may be experiencing. Nurses should recognize their own personal and cultural construction of silence so that a patient’s silence is not interrupted too early or allowed to go on unnecessarily. 暮色暗淡,残阳如血。

北方的风凛冽地刮着,刮得人生疼。一个十八岁的少女坐在河边,手里拿着最后一次的模考卷,上面的分数令她心寒。她考差了,离自己梦想的学校还差了好多,然而更令她伤心的是,她的父母非但没有安慰她,反而将她痛骂了一顿。

女孩于残阳中站了起来,她撕碎了手里的试卷,回到了家。没有人知道那个夜晚女孩想了什么、想了多久。只是看见,从那以后,女孩仿佛在书桌旁生了根。

几个月后,女孩坐在高考考场上,答完了人生最重要的几份卷。也许是好事多磨,女孩虽然比最后一次模考分数多出了很多,但依然未能考上梦想院校,只因几分。

或许是因为自己的经历,我妈妈从小到大都不太在意我的成绩,所以在别人学奥数的时候,我基本上都在扔泥巴。但我妈妈也是有底线的,她不要求我每次都要考满分、90分,她只要求我每次进步,哪怕只有一点点。

上了高中后,由于我的爱好,我学了艺术,成为了艺术生。功课落下了不少,成绩自然也不算优秀,妈妈也还是只有“进步”一个要求。她只是不想我也像她一样因为没有努力和进步而在迷雾中穿梭。

如今,我走在了妈妈曾经走过的路上,只求问心无愧和争取进步,或许我的进步十分微小。使我赶不上我想要搭乘的那辆列车。不过,后面其实还有很多辆车在等我,因为我一直在努力进步,就像小树一直在努力进步和成就一片繁茂;就像水滴一直在努力进步汇成一曲江河,奔向所梦想的远方。

仅从表面上看,母亲对从满分降为98分的退步的孩子求全责备,而对虽然一开始不及格、但后来进步的孩子不吝爱吻,是不是仅说明这位母亲鼓励进步之可取与苛责退步之不妥呢?并非如此,拨开表面的巴掌与吻之别,在这幅漫画中,我们应看到仅仅是分数上的一点变化,都足以使家长做出截然不同的反应,其背后折射出的无数个家庭相似的情景,不免令人深思。

紧紧盯着分数,视分数进与退为奖罚标准,与其产生的求全责备之态,并非是个别家长所为。满分得吻、98分得巴掌这一荒谬现象,正是被诟病许久的唯分数论的体现,当家长并不在乎分数背后反映的知识掌握情况,指导学习作用时,也就不再在意“98分已经很接近满分”这一事实,而是只看见比上次退步了2分的情况,辨不清“无论55分还是61分都说明孩子学习状况不佳,”而只关注比上次进步了6分。在啼笑皆非之余,我们不免要发出这样的疑问:这样粗暴的分数对待,对分数的执着,到底因何而来?

固然,激烈的竞争环境与中国向来重视考试的传统都在一定程度上导致了对考试分数的普遍关注,但有没有更深层、更本质的原因呢?将分数进退当作唯一依据的背后,不正是我们缺乏对孩子成长客观全面的评判标准、对除学习外其他方面忽视遗忘吗?古代便有“为己之学”,以修养完满人格而非取得外界认可的官位为目标,而今,社会也更需要综合素质优秀、人格健全的人才,而非巴掌与吻滋养出的分数型人才。君不见今年校园投毒案中,犯罪的青年虽分数耀眼,但人格上有着致命缺陷,如若仅凭巴掌与吻一味注目分数浮动,还能说是“育人”吗?培育的到底是栋梁还是外表光鲜,内里朽烂的速生木?

所谓求全责备与宽容鼓励之异,在向教育敲响警钟,内里显现的教育观念之弊,正中痛点。我们不能仅停留在“知道”,“改变”的背后正需“痛定思痛”作引擎,重新审视日常中我们早已熟悉的情景,以此为契机,给孩子的成长路上正确的引导与培育,帮助他们获得除了分数的其他优良品质与综合能力,以真正的吻报以最大的鼓励,以真正的吻对待他们的教育报以决心与坚守。

勿以点点沉浮论英雄

“爱其子,择师而教之。”今人之于古人,更为注重孩子的教育。然而,不少父母把重视化为对于点点成绩的纠结,平日里的“天之骄子”因点点失误而被“由爱转恨”者有之,一直的“差生”因点点进步而顿被“捧在手心”者亦有之。父母的态度因一点点分数改变而“一百八十度”大转弯,这是对待成绩过于主观、生硬的行为。

四、通读全文,查漏补缺,工整誊写

【命题规律】

图画作文是近年来高考书面表达考查的热点提醒之一,要求考生将画面信息运用英语思维转换成英语文字,旨在避免考生运用汉语思维布局谋篇。

图画作文可以分为三种类型:一是记叙类,通过组图叙述一个活动;二是漫画评论类,通过单张图画揭示某一现象;三是通过几幅图画的对比,反映今昔变化或得出某一结论。 【备考策略】

一、看图记叙文的写作

组图通常呈现一件事情发生的始末,考生要根据几幅图的先后顺序介绍事情的全过程,有时需要考生发表个人感想。写作时,要根据主题的需要来概括每幅图的要点,一定要分清主要内容和次要内容,必要内容和非必要内容。具体步骤如下:

1.明确写作任务。记叙文写作要交代五个“W”和一个“H”,即:What(什么事),Who(什么人),When(什么时候),Where(什么地点),Why(什么原因),How(怎么样)。整个写作内容的确定、写作材料的筛选,都要围绕这五个“W”和一个“H”进行。

2.灵活安排写作顺序。记叙文通常是按照事情发展的先后顺序来叙述,但是为了表达的需要,也可以采用倒叙、插叙等方式来叙述。

3.合理选择人称。一般来说,英语记叙文多以第一人称(I/We)或第三人称(He/She/It/They)展开叙述。第一人称是从“参与者”的角度进行叙述;第三人称是以“观察者”的身份展开叙述,第一人称记叙,会使人感到内容真实可信,第三人称记叙会使人感到内容狠客观。第三人称常用于重大事件的客观报道或者叙述他人的经历或事迹。写作时要根据具体情况合理选择。

4.合理把握时态语态。从近几年高考真题来看,记叙文通常采用过去相关时态,如一般过去时等。

二、看图议论文的写作

单张图画通常是提供一幅图并配以相关的文字提示。考生不仅要仔细观察图画所传达的表面信息,还要深刻挖掘该幅图画所表达的深层含义。在具体写作时可以采用三段式:第一段描述图画内容及图画反映的问题,第二段分析问题产生的原因,第三段从自己的观点出发,谈一下解决问题的方法。

三、对比图的写作

对比图通常是提供两到三张图画,要求考生对图画进行全面
