All the things that you have been through, all the people you have met and interacted with can have an impact on your attitude. If you think that all these factors have molded you into a
person with a poor attitude towards life, there is no need to worry as there is always an opportunity for change. Let me share with you how I did it.
1.Identify and understand what you want to change.
The first step towards change is clearly understanding what needs to be changed. Setting clear goals is the key to success in any endeavor. When it comes to changing your attitude, you need to do an honest and in-depth self-evaluation so you could point out exactly which of your traits(品质) need to be improved or totally changed.
2.Look for a role model.
We all need to know that what we're trying to accomplish can in fact be achieved; that we can be more optimistic, more social or more patient. Find someone who has the kind of attitude that you want to have, and let his or her life give you inspiration and encouragement to move beyond your temporary failures in your journey towards becoming a better person.
3.Choose the right company.
As they say, “Bad company good character.” You don't expect yourself to be able to change if you go on surrounding yourself with people who possess all the negative traits that you want to change. Consider befriending new people, especially those who are optimistic and have a healthy attitude towards life. You will see that your effort to change will be easier with these kinds of people as friends.
4.Believe that you are able to change.
Often, the greatest obstacle between us and our goals is ourselves or our inability to trust in what we are able to do. If you don't believe in yourself or believe that you or your life can change, it just won't happen—you will either never start, or give up quickly so you won't have even given yourself the opportunity to succeed.
It cannot be denied that a positive attitude is very important for living a successful and satisfying life, so it is only right to strive to have a positive attitude. I have struggled with reforming my negative attitude as well, but over the years, through persistence and self-evaluation, I have managed to change for the better. You can, too!
( )36.What is the key to success in any endeavor?
A.Changing your attitude.
B.Setting clear goals.
C.Pointing out your bad trait.
D.Doing an in-depth self-evaluation.
( )37.The underlined word “corrupts” in paragraph 4 most probably means ________.
A.swallows B.means
C.conducts D.improves
B
In 2002, an Australian man went to his friend's 21st birthday party. He got drunk, tripped on some steps and cut his lip. He took a picture of his injuries and shared it with his friends on an online forum. “And sorry about the focus,” he wrote, “it was a selfie.”
That was the first recorded use of the word “selfie”, according to linguistic(语言学的) experts at Oxford Dictionaries.
On Nov. 19, Oxford Dictionaries declared “selfie” Word of the Year for 2013, in honor of the term having taken over the world thanks to millions of smartphone self-portraits and the resulting shares on social media.
Research by Oxford Dictionaries' editors found that the frequency of “selfie” in the English language has increased by 17 percent since this time last year.
“The word gained momentum(势力) throughout the English-speaking world in 2013 as it evolved from a social media buzzword to mainstream short hand for a self-portrait photograph,” Oxford Dictionaries explained in a news release. “Its linguistic productivity is already evident in the creation of numerous terms showing particular parts of the body like helfie(a picture of one's hair); a particular activity—welfie(workout selfie) and drelfie(drunken selfie), and even items of furniture—shelfie.”2015年高考英语综合诊断试题3答案解析
So what does the choice of the word say about our culture? Mary Elizabeth Williams, writing in Salon magazine, says the word reminds us that contemporary culture is defined by our narcissism(自我欣赏).
Selfies are narcissistic, but so what? An article in The Atlantic Wire points out that the very sort of narcissism that feeds selfies was thriving well before the Internet. Think about painted self-portraits by Van Gogh and other masters. Bookstores, too, have an entire section for narcissism—the autobiography, or “literary selfie”, as it should be renamed for young readers.
“Like great works of art, selfies aren't meant to be looked at solely by the subject,” writes Jonathan Freedland in The Guardian. However superficial(表面的) a selfie may look, its purpose is to be transmitted by social media. This is the selfie's feature. They may be focused on the self, but they also express a timeless human need to connect with others.
Selfies invite judgment based on appearance alone. What kind of cultural influence does this have on women? Erin Gloria Ryan on Jezebel says selfies teach young woman to focus their attention on their appearance and judge themselves on the basis of beauty rather than accomplishments.
In Slate magazine, Rachel Simmons has the opposite view. She argues that selfies are an example of young women promoting themselves and taking control of their own self-presentation. “Think of each one, ”she says, “as a tiny pulse of girl pride—a shout-out to the self”.
( )38.What is the purpose of Paragraph 1?
A.To attract the reader's attention.
B.To just list an example.
C.To supply the evid陈婴ence.
D.To show the theme of the passage.
( )39.Which of the following is TRUE?
A.The first use of “selfies ” is On Nov. 19.
B.Oxford Dictionaries have declared “selfie” Word of the Year for 2013.
C.The great frequency of “selfie” in the English language has shocked the whole world.
D.Selfies refers to one person's narcissism and self-respect.
( )40.From the passage, we can infer that ________.
A.The word gained popularity in 2013 as it turns into the abbreviation of a self-portrait photograph.
B.Mary Elizabeth Williams says selfie reminds us that contemporary culture is defined by our narcissism in Slate magazine.
C.The autobiography or “literary selfie” does not reflect narcissism.
D.Ryan thinks selfie is a way to promote young women's appearance and ability.
